Intelligent Species

There are many thousands of intelligent species in the galaxy, many of which could make a good PC. Here are just a few. Each heading is a link to a corresponding page on a Star Wars wiki (Wookieepedia). However, don’t take all of the information presented there for granted, as much of it is drawn from Star Wars Extended Universe sources that are not canon for this campaign.

Bothan
Furry mammalians, somewhat smaller than humans, Bothans travel throughout the galaxy, gathering and trading in knowledge. They are known as academics, teachers, explorers, and spies.
Cerean

Cerean

Cerean
Highly civilized humanoids from the planet Cerea in the Mid Rim, Cereans have tall tapering heads with large bifurcated brains. Cerean males age much more quickly than females, resulting a high ratio of females to males in the population. This leads to a custom of polygamous marriage with each male usually having one primary “bond-wife,” and between four and ten “honor-wives.”
Droid
Droids of many different sentience levels are created and used for a variety of purposes. A small number are designed with a high level of intelligence and eventually develop completely independent thought and behavior. These exceptional droids are appropriate as PCs.
Duros
The Duros are a humanoid species native to the planet Duro who are among the galaxy’s first and most widely traveled spacefaring civilizations. They have smooth blue-green skin, large red eyes, lipless mouths, long thin noseless faces and green blood. Olfactory organs beneath their eyes are responsible for their sense of smell. Both females and males are bald. Duros females lay eggs. While usually taciturn, Duros enjoy telling stories about their travels. It is said Duros have a photographic memory when it comes to the telling of tales and stories. Many Duros are pilots, explorers, and starship crewmembers.
Gand
Both humanoid and insectoid, Gands represent several closely related intelligent species from an ammonia atmosphere planet of the same name. Some require special breathing gear to survive on mainline planets, while others don’t actually breathe and are able to survive in an oxygen nitrogen atmosphere without difficulty. Most Gand avoid the personal pronoun, referring to themselves in the third person. The most common role for Gand off of their homeworld is as shamanistic bounty hunters known as findsmen.
Gran
Gran are mammalian humanoids native to the planet Kinyen, although they have colonies throughout the galaxy. They average slightly shorter than humans and have three eyes. Female Gran have three breasts. They have excellent vision, extending into the infrared. They are peaceful, highly social, and known for absolute devotion to their families.
Human
Humans and near-humans are the most common group of sentient species. Standard humans are among the earliest and most widely ranging starfaring species and are found in small and large colonies throughout the galaxy.
Kel Dor
Evolving on a planet with a thick atmosphere consisting mostly of helium and a unique gas, the Kel Dor see well in low-light conditions, but must wear a gas breather when not in their natural atmosphere. They are quick and wise, with a compassion that rivals their vigilantism sense of justice.
Rodian

Rodian

Rodian
A reptilian humanoid species, the Rodians are quite common in the Rim. Though often often relegated to the fringes of galactic society as bounty hunters or criminal henchmen, Rodians may also be merchants, artisans, explorers, and artists.
Sullustan
Sullustans are a species of mammalian humanoids, somewhat shorter than humans. They are distinguishable for their almond-shaped black eyes, facial jowls called dewflaps, and large, round ears. They have excellent hearing and low light vision. Due to an innate sense of direction, navigation, and three dimensional visualization, they are known as some of the the best pilots in the galaxy.
Togruta
The Togruta are a carnivorous humanoid species from the planet Shili. They have head-tails (similar to those of Twi’leks) and montrals, large hollow horn-like projections from the top of their heads that give the species a form of passive echolocation. They have rusty skin tones ranging in hue from orange to red, with white pigmentation on their faces, and greyish lips. Most have white stripes also adorning various parts of their bodies. Togruta work well in large groups, and individualism is seen as abnormal within their culture, although it is also a necessary quality in leaders.
Trandoshan
Large carnivorous reptilians, Trandoshans have a reputation as fierce and fearless warriors. Many Trandoshans who leave their home worlds and colonies become bounty hunters, mercenaries, pirates, and gladiatorial fighters.
Twi’lek
Twi’leks are an omnivorous humanoid species originating from the planet Ryloth. They tend to eat cultivated molds, fungi, and rycrit meat. Their distinctive features included colorful skin, which varies in pigment from individual to individual, and a pair of prehensile tentacles that grow from the base of their skulls. The tentacles, called lekku, are used for communication and cognitive functions. Twi’leks possess a fairly standard humanoid vocal structure and are capable of learning most alien languages; however, they usually prefer their native language of Ryl, which incorporates subtle movement of the lekku. When they wish, they can even communicate in complete secrecy using their versatile brain-tails. Twi’lek females are often used as slaves or dancers because of their beauty.
Weequay
Weequays are a race of humanoids from the Outer Rim planet of Sriluur, near Hutt Space. Their home is a harsh desert planet, leading to the species’ tanned skin tone and rough, sandy, wrinkled skin. Their eyes are dark and slightly recessed into their skull. Weequay are able to communicate with other members of their own clan silently using pheromones. For this reason, speech is a secondary form of communication for Weequay. When using verbal speech they often speak in clipped sentence fragments and don’t take names except for communicating with outsiders. Weequays who travel offworld are often employed as bounty hunters, mercenaries, and criminal henchmen.
Wookiee
Despite their fearsome and savage countenance, Wookiees are intelligent, gentle and fiercely loyal. Wookiees are large fur covered arboreal mammals. They have long sharp claws, although there is a strong cultural taboo against using these as weapons. Many Wookiees have difficulty learning to pronounce Galactic Standard, although most who travel off their homeworld learn to understand it.
Zabrak
Near humans with vestigial horns on their heads and two hearts in their torsos, Zabraks are known for their single mindedness and fierce determination. Zabraks typically receive a set of facial tattoos to mark their adolescent rite of passage.
